About the Event

We have changed the dates of this series of workshops, so this is the first of four on 23 and 30 Sept, and 7 and 14 October, which can be taken singly or together.

Cost £40 per class, or £135 for all four.  Please reserve a place via the website, and pay on the day.

Please bring your own materials and lunch, and be prepared to work out of doors.  Teas and coffee provided.

Danny Holmes Adams is a renowned painter of landscapes in the SW and of still life, often featuring flowers.  His art celebrates the human response to the astonishing beauty and surprises of nature, and his paintings are known for their luminous expressive quality.  He is also highly regarded as a teacher, notably at the Dartmoor Arts Project summer-schools over nearly a decade.  We are fortunate that he is bringing his skill and experience back to Woodbury, after a successful series of classes in the summer.  He will guide both beginners and more experienced painters through heartfelt responses to the natural world, and its representation - in any medium of your choice.

Making the most of the September light and the season, we will first walk in the surrounding garden areas, drawing and colour sketching, direct from the found subject.  We willl then take these studies and ideas as a starting point back to the studio to develop them into more of a creative response as a painting or drawing. This may become quite abstract or expressive, with gentle and responsive support from Danny to help explore and develop ideas.

Feedback from the summer classes:

"Danny is a wonderful teacher.  He is calm and gentle, and his art work is truly amazing.  I am a beginner and he taught me the most important things about drawing and painting landscape - how to find the best composition, and how to understand contrasts of colour.

He gave me a different perspective on what I see, which makes me really excited about drawing.  His method of teaching is to help you finding your originality, to express your creativity, and to enjoy art-making - I felt freedom and excitement..

Thank you very much for such a wonderful opportunity. I really enjoyed it."
